Are Men Losing Their Hair Younger Than Ever?

Our Experience at Hair Professionals

That’s a troubling trend that we have observed first-hand here at Hair Professionals. In fact, we’ve had young men come to see us about hair loss at increasingly young ages—sometimes as early as age 16.

16-year-olds struggling with hair loss are still somewhat uncommon, but 20-21 year olds struggling with hair loss are not at all uncommon. We’re seeing more and more of them, and when they come to us, their hair loss is already extreme—sometimes as much as 40 percent loss on top.

The Causes of Men’s Hair Loss

The question is, what’s causing so many younger men to experience thinning hair?

There are a number of possibilities, ranging from dietary shifts to changes in the environment. It is impossible to pin down any one cause in the increased hair loss experienced by young men, but there are certainly some issues we can raise.

One thing we will note is that many young men work in increasingly stressful environments—and often lack the stress management tools needed to deal with this properly. Stress can be a primary trigger for trichotillomania, telogen effluvium, and other conditions that cause hair loss. As such, the fast-paced and hectic nature of our society could literally be driving some young men to baldness.

Poor nutrition is another likely culprit. Hair, just like other parts of the body, requires the right nutrients for sustenance and strength, yet many young men neglect key nutrients such as iron, Vitamin B, and Vitamin D, all imperative for healthy hair growth.

Finally, hormonal imbalance is another big factor in hair loss. There are many reasons why today’s young men might deal with imbalanced hormones, ranging from medical conditions to the drugs used to treat those medical conditions.

Solutions for Men of All Ages

At Hair Professionals, we see hair loss in men of all ages—and truthfully, the factors in their hair loss differ. With that said, there is always a solution available—one that’s natural, healthy, and effective.

Certainly, we recommend that young men dealing with hair loss consider needed lifestyle changes. Could you be dealing with stress more productively? Could you be eating a rounder and more balanced diet? Are you doing anything that could lead to hormonal imbalances in your body? Seeing your doctor can provide you with answers to any of these questions.

Additionally, we’d encourage you to come see us at Hair Professionals, where our stylists can recommend supplements, topical solutions, or other products to help restore or replace your lost hair. You are never too young to find the right hair loss solution, and at Hair Professionals we are always here to help.
