Did You Know Improving Your Diet Can Help Hair Growth?

When you deal with hair loss, as a man or woman, it can be frustrating. People experience hair loss for many different reasons. Some of the common reasons are genetics, stress, hormones, scalp conditions, and other medical conditions. And there are many ways to treat hair loss, depending on the cause. At Hair Professionals, we give each of our clients a consultation and free scalp analysis to help determine the cause of each person's hair loss and identify some potential solutions.

However, if you have noticed hair loss and have a poor diet, one thing you can begin doing on your own is changing your nutrition.

But the truth is, what we eat plays a large role in our appearance and energy levels whether we like to believe it or not. And perhaps your diet isn't that out of line but you are missing some key vitamins and minerals in your diet that encourage hair growth. Here are 7 foods that says can help you have stronger, fuller hair.

  • Eggs: Eggs are a great source of protein and since hair is made up of the protein, keratin, natural proteins are an important component in a healthy diet and for healthy hair.
  • Spinach and Leafy Greens: These vegetables are full of iron, an essential mineral for hair cells. An iron deficiency can even cause hair loss, preventing other vitamins from getting to your hair and making hair weak.
  • Oranges, Grapefruit, and Other Citrus: Iron and vitamin C work together—the body needs vitamin C to absorb iron. Vitamin C also aids in the production of collagen which produces strong hair (and lovely skin too).
  • Omega 3s: You can get omega 3s from nuts, seeds, and fish oil. These fatty acids nourish hair and promote hair thickening.
  • Whole Grains: Whole grains contain biotin, and also iron, zinc, and B vitamins. When you eat whole grains you are giving your body and hair the ability to create more amino acids/protein, for healthier hair.
  • Carrots: Carrots provide vitamin A which is necessary for cell growth. Since your hair experiences faster cell growth than any other part of your body, carrots and carrot juice can help hair grow more quickly.
  • Avocados: Avocados supply your body with vitamin E which helps blood circulation to your hair follicles. This promotes hair growth.

If you read this list and notice you don't have very many of these foods in your diet and you are experiencing hair loss, focusing on your diet may be a good place to start. However, at Hair Professionals, we would love to sit down with you and discuss the symptoms you are experiencing. We have worked with many men and women to restore the health, volume, and appearance of their hair.

Unlike some hair loss professionals, we don't have a one-size-fits-all solution for your hair loss. We do a careful analysis of your scalp and hair pattern. Using a specialized microcamera and analytics software we can determine why you are experiencing hair loss. This will help us determine possible steps for you moving forward.

Of course, healthier hair would only be ONE of many positive side effects of having a healthier diet including the previously mentioned foods. It can't hurt to change your diet and make sure you are including foods like these that are rich in vitamins, minerals, and protein. But if you have further concerns, we would love to meet with you and begin your journey towards the hair you desire. Contact us today for more information.
